Summer Reg Link Dropped!

Register HERE today to join us this August from wherever you are! The virtual world has expanded our geographic limitations – we are thrilled to connect with other curious humans across the country & around the world! Different experiences breathe new life into the tough questions we ask and the ways we approach problem solving. Debate & Model United Nations help students organize their thoughts, advocate, and speak confidently. But at their core, these activities are about fleshing out and attempting to solve the most challenging issues of today: foreign policy, global health, human rights protections, the ethics of science & technology, education, borders & trade, and more. We look forward to connecting with you!

We welcome high school and motivated middle grade students. Our experienced instructors accommodate novices and elite debaters, alike – this is the perfect opportunity to on-ramp for new students and also to review & refresh for returning Debaters/Delegates to hit the ground running in September. The week will run virtually, as follows: Debate, 11a -3p (EST); MUN, 3:30-5:30p. Please do not hesitate to reach out to jenniferhunt@thehive.academy with any questions.

Join Us August 16-20 for Debate & MUN – from Anywhere!

Only 3 weeks until the highlight of our summer (it’s true!). Reserve your spot here today!

After much deliberation, we will host our summer program for middle and high schoolers virtually given the quickly shifting health trends. We are disappointed, but we remain confident in our ability to remain engaging and impactful online. Further, running online makes good sense since most tournaments will continue to be hosted online this fall. Public speaking has taken on a new dimension, and mastering the art of virtual communication is necessary for us all going forward. Additionally, we have students joining us from across the country – we love diverse perspectives!

Remember, our summer program is perfect both for on-ramping beginners, as well as for advanced debaters wanting to hit the ground running in September! We have you covered wherever you are:

  • do you like to think big thoughts? ask tough questions? work out solutions?
  • are you a complete novice?
  • are you changing tracks (novice to varsity/open) or leagues (middle to high school)?
  • do you love extemporaneous debate (it’s a bit like a roller coaster!)?
  • are you looking to improve early in the season?
  • do you enjoy working with others to develop an idea?
  • do you love the creative story arc of a good MUN simulation?

Register today! We customize camp each year to the students attending. Bring a friend & spread the word!

As always, reach out with questions anytime: jenniferhunt@thehive.academy.

Summer Program 2021

TL;DR Registration link dropped!

We are thrilled to continue our summer Debate and Model United Nations (MUN) programs again this year!

We will run August 16-20, 2021. Format TBD closer to the date according to the public health situation. We aim to run in person, but if we must run online (or hybrid), it will remain engaging, productive, and fun! We have hosted robust virtual programs last spring, summer, and this academic year.

Our summer program is perfect both for on-ramping beginners and for advanced debaters wanting to hit the ground running in September!

As always, reach out with questions anytime: jenniferhunt@thehive.academy.

Registration 2020-21 Open

Registration for the academic year skills program & team is OPEN!

Given the current health circumstances, we are pivoting from our usual in-person practices. Instead, we are moving to the Zoom platform for the fall (spring tbd).

It works! Our Summer Program was a huge success(!), and several of our debaters competed in virtual tournaments early summer (special shout out to Adele Burke for making it to out-rounds twice at the Regan Great Communicator Debate Series!). All tournaments – CDA, CTMSDL, Invitationals, and more – will continue to run online this fall.

Practices begin August 31 – meeting Mondays, 5-7p. We look forward to working with y’all this year!

Please email jenniferhunt@thehive.academy for more information or click here to register today.

CTMSDL Scrimmage 2018

Our middle schoolers impress me every practice, but this crew smashed the scrimmage: going 2-0 and earning top 3 speakers in both rounds!

Great way to start the year Emily, Caleb & Elena!

Many thanks to our volunteer high school judges and workshop presenters: Adele Burke, Haven Hunt, and Halle Hunt.

Debate Update Fall 2018

The HiveFall 2018

I couldn’t be prouder of our High School IHS/Hive Team!

From the Yale Invitational to the CDA Novice Scrimmage to the first CDA Tournament of the season – these students successfully battled wits, debating topics ranging from foreign relations to the American legal system and everything in between.

Their personal and academic growth is inspiring – what a terrific start to the year!

Special thanks to the parents who supported the students by investing the time to train and judge.

Summer 2018 Workshops

While the debate & MUN season hasn’t quite wrapped for us, we are excited to announce our summer workshops! More information to come. In the meantime, please mark the dates:

Session I – July 30-August 3

Session II – August 6-11

We are fortunate to have Hannah & Harper returning to run these intensive on-road and boot camp workshops for new & returning debaters! Both debate on the national (and even international) circuits, and they have extensive high school & college MUN experience, as well.

Come one or both weeks. We find that those who are able to attend both weeks maximize their development, but we understand summer schedules are challenging.
